The Gift of Giving with the Polish Canadian Women’s Federation

The Christmas season is upon us and one of the joys of the season is giving to those in need, which can come in many forms. On December 2nd the Polish Highlanders Association of Canada had the pleasure of being invited by Ogniwo 1 President Edyta Fryc Tobiasz to the Polish Canadian Women’s Federation (Ogniwo Nr 1-Federacji Polek w Kanadzie z Toronto) Christmas Dinner at Livadia Banquet Hall in Mississauga.

The event was a special fundraiser aimed at providing financial assistance to women within the Polish Canadian community who may be struggling through hardships and require moral and financial support. This mandate of support, similar to the values and goals offered by our organization, can often times be even more important during the Christmas season. Our Executive Board was delighted to attend and start this season off with the gift of giving.

One of the evenings highlights included Christmas carolling and performances by our dance ensembles Harnasie and Mali Harnasie, and of course everyone was delighted that Saint Nicholas was able to make a special appearance.

The Polish-Canadian Women’s Federation was founded in 1956 in order to organize women of Polish origin for the purpose of preserving their cultural values and making a positive contribution to Canadian society. An important goal of the Federation is to protect the rights of women and to respond to women and family issues in order to preserve family value, as well as upholding Polish culture while helping new immigrants integrate in to the Canadian culture.
